Farm-City Loses a Friend and Past Host

Jerry T. Deusenbery, 61, passed away Monday afternoon (May 10, 2010) from injuries sustained due to a vehicle accident.

Jerry was born Nov. 15, 1948 in Wayland, the son of Thomas and Mary (Cragg) Deusenbery. He grew up in, and has remained a resident of the Atlanta/Wayland area his entire life. Jerry was a 1966 graduate of Wayland Central School and a 1968 graduate of Alfred State College with an associate’s degree in animal science. Jerry and Cheryl Wheaton were married Nov. 18, 1972 at the Atlanta Presbyterian Church. Together they have celebrated over 37 years of marriage. Jerry’s employment career in its entirety had been as a dairy farmer on their family farm, Deusenbery Farms, Inc. He enjoyed being a dairy farmer and worked very hard at it. Owning and operating a dairy farm didn’t leave much time for hobbies, however he was a member of the Farm Bureau, he played basketball in Naples and he especially enjoyed spending time with granddaughters, Courtney, Madison, Olivia and Mattie. Jerry will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Deusenbery of Atlanta; his children, Stephanie (Jeffrey) Howes of Cohocton, Matt (Heather) Deusenbery of Wayland, and Amanda Deusenbery of Penfield; his mother, Mary Deusenbery of Cohocton; his mother-in-law, Vivian Wheaton of Lima; his four granddaughters, Courtney, Madison and Olivia Lewis and Mattie Deusenbery; his siblings, Carol Robinson of Wayland, Rita (Gene) Schafer of Corfu, Geraldine Deusenbery (William Hoffman) of Cohocton, Anthony (Holly) Deusenbery of Naples, Jacqueline (David) Thompson of New Jersey, Cindy (Gerald) Wilkinson of Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sheldon (Mary) Wheaton of Texas, Karen Wheaton (Phil Zeh) of Atlanta, Randy Wheaton of Livonia and Todd (Amy) Wheaton of Penfield; along with aunts and uncles and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions in Jerry T. Deusenbery’s memory may be made to the Steuben County CCE-4-H Program, 3 Pultney Square, Bath, N.Y. 14810 or to the Hatch Hose Fire Co., 30 University Ave., Atlanta, N.Y. 14808.
